Two men, ten years and one abandoned
suitcase tell the contemporary story of progress measured against the human
condition.
After the accidental discovery of a dusty old suitcase in the basement of
his parents house, Basil Khalil decides to return it to it’s owner, Yi
Chaoming, a Chinese man, who 10 years ago was a construction worker in
Israel, and got deported for overstaying his visa.
Basil’s fascination with the unknown contents of the case, and his obsessive
desire to locate one man amongst a billion ,take him on an epic journey
halfway around the world to China.
On his journey we observe the immense changes that happened to the country
over the last ten years in conjunction to Chaoming’s life, as we learn more
about his struggle for success and fame, told from the point of view of the
people his life crossed their paths.
Will the case's contents be still relevant in today’s China? Or has China
not really changed that much?
This is a riveting story told in the style of an Errol Morris film with
polished cinematography accompanied by an expansive orchestral score. The
film will combine dramatic re-enactment with observational and staged
scenes. The select use of animation and graphics will present an
entertainingly stylish yet dense feel that will perfectly capture the
juxtaposition of cultures and worldviews that A Chinese Case explores.
A taster trailer
is coming soon, but for now you can
watch the visual
reference video.
